Week 5 - Discovery Day Camp - Ages 5-12

The heat warning didn’t slow down our 30 campers this week, but I know the extra sleep with the campers at home every night was appreciated by our staff.   Our staff pushed through the heat to match the energy levels of our campers; not an easy task when the campers are aged 5-12.

The campers braved the rock wall, loved Dave’s dog, Teddi, and enjoyed their favorite part of camp, the playground.  They loved beach time.  Whenever I went down to the shore every camper was in the water splashing and exploring the ocean with their new friends.

Two girls were excited to share that they both lost baby teeth at camp!

After lunch every day the campers would eagerly await tuck time by playing board games in the lodge or standing in line at the window.  Two little girls would sit side by side at the wooden bench in the lodge reading Bibles while they waited.   It was heartwarming to see.

One of our campers spent half the week collecting cans and bottles to trade in with the promise that he’d donate some of the money to camp.   We thanked him for his kindness.

Pirate Beard (Jacob Price), Pirate Kristen, and their two pirates in training joined us this week.  They led us on an adventure to find God.  We learned that when we search for God we will find Him.   We can find God through our friendships, we find God in our everyday lives, we find God in times when we’re afraid, and God is constantly searching for us.   Jacob also challenged some of our staff to join him in the mornings for his HITT workout.  Courtney, Rebekah, Elijah, and Bella stepped up to the challenge.   Thank you, Prices for coming.   We enjoyed having you!

Because it was day camp, the staff were able to enjoy some fellowship and bonding time in the evenings.  They were also able to rest up before we begin some of our biggest camps for the season.

We ask that you continue to pray for us;  that God continues to fill us with His energy and that campers would be open to experiencing His love and plans for their lives.   Please also pray that our Director Dave would regain his strength and health quickly as we miss him and I know he’s missing camp.

Blessings,
Melanie
Assistant Director
